“Common ground” wisdom of 5 pioneering M.D.s (videos)

Chapter 1 of our book features five pioneering medical doctors who promote chronic disease prevention and reversal with a simple shift to a whole foods, plant-based diet. While some of them may disagree with some of the others on a few minor points, they all share common ground agreement with this statement by Dr. T. Colin Campbell:

The closer we get to eating a whole foods, plant-based diet, the better off we will be.

How simple is that? But most people are not aware of that simple fact—and that includes most medical doctors. Like almost everyone else, most medical doctors truly believe that we “need” to eat animal protein to be healthy.

But these five pioneering physicians have proven that “protein myth” to be just that. In fact, all of them have reversed chronic disease in their patients by harnessing the power of the whole foods, plant-based diet.

In addition to Dr. Campbell, four of these five have also endorsed our book. I have met all but one of these great men and have become good friends with a few of them. Here they are—my five medical heroes of plant-based eating, listed in alphabetical order—with a short video of each one:

Neal Barnard, MD. I’ve followed his work for many years but didn’t meet him in person until 11-20-12. In this 2-minute video, he takes a few minutes to talk about reversing diabetes with a whole foods, plant-based diet.

Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. After meeting Ann and Ess in 2005, they have become good friends. In this 3-minute video, he reviews his landmark heart disease study at The Cleveland Clinic where he successfully reversed heart disease in all 17 of his terminal patients.

Joel Fuhrman, MD. I know this pioneering physician very well and know that he has reversed all kinds of chronic disease in thousands of patients. Further, in his book, Eat to Live, he has reached millions more. In this video, he talks about something that we don’t hear very often, but it’s very important. He talks about the natural “detox” that will begin taking place when one moves quickly from the toxic western diet to a health-promoting, whole foods, plant-based diet. A quick Google search will locate many other videos of Dr. Fuhrman.

John McDougall, MD. After studying John’s work for many years, I finally met him in 2007 when I attended one of his Advanced Study Weekends in Santa Rosa, CA.In this 2.5 minute video from the Forks Over Knives movie, he discusses the health-promoting, disease-reversing, whole foods, plant-based diet style.

Dean Ornish, MD. Dean is the only one of this esteemed five that I have not met in person. But, as the “most famous” real doctor in America, I am delighted to have his endorsement on the front cover of our book. In this 3.5 minute video (TED Talks), he provides a concise summary of how most of our chronic diseases are preventable and reversible in 95% of the cases—with simple diet and lifestyle changes.

A tale of two diet-styles; choose the one that’s right for you.

And you won’t need to consult with your physician to decide.

Here is one of the Atkins type gurus---he's even written books about losing weight and is featured in the first video below.

Here is one of the Atkins type gurus (Jimmy Moore)—he’s even written books about losing weight and is featured in the first video below.

Since Robert Atkins got rich telling people how to lose weight by reinforcing their bad habits several decades ago, there has been a steady stream of those kinds of low carb, high animal protein diets. Billions of pounds have been lost and billions of pounds have been regained.

I would wager that the cumulative net weight loss (for all dieters) is in the negative column. Meanwhile, millions of innocent victims have died of diseases that were promoted by these extremely unhealthful diet-styles.

Here's "Dynamite" Wilks, the vegan fighter featured in the second video.

Here’s “Lightning” Wilks, the vegan fighter featured in the second video.

But, what if those diets were able to get the job done, keep you healthy—and enable you to keep the weight off forever? It really wouldn’t matter, because they’re all simply unsustainable for very much longer—not enough land, not enough water and not enough energy.

The good news is that you can have it all with the whole foods, plant-based 4Leaf for Life way of eating. You can get healthy, stay healthy, lose weight, keep it off, enjoy eating all you want at every meal and nurture our fragile environment so that it can sustain human life indefinitely.

First, the low carb guru of the month (one minute)

Now for the plant-eating dynamo, James Wilks (4 minutes)

Still haven’t decided? This 2-minute video should help.

Prostate cancer victim issues a challenge…

…Start helping us get this need addressed so those of us suffering can rejoin the human race.

The PSA Blue Ribbon

The PSA Blue Ribbon

After reading my blog (see link below) about the prostate cancer victim who regretted his radiation treatment, another victim (Brian) sent me an email that revealed his regret about his treatment and his  frustration with our overall system.

Mr. Hicks, I read your article about this and concur with the subject of your article.  I just finished radiation treatment for prostate and hate/regret it also. We don’t get enough guidance from doctors and basically they just sell whatever they do.  I was able to step around all the various land mines until one got me after the rosy sales pitch and fear mongering.

There are so many of us suffering quality of life issues following the barbaric methods of treating this cancer…The best hope we are given is the band aid approach and often times the band aid doesn’t work. We should be given choices and we should be allowed to determine if we are willing to accept any risk.

No question …. Just a challenge!

Start helping us get this need addressed so those of us suffering can rejoin the human race. I am only 52 years old with side effects a 52 year-old does not want and was led to believe would’t happen.

Dr. Michael Klaper

Dr. Michael Klaper. See second link below; he does telephone consultations.

Dear Brian,

Thank you for your email. I accept your challenge and will continue doing all that I can to raise awareness about your disease and the many other chronic diseases that could be easily prevented, slowed or even reversed by a simple shift to a whole foods, plant-based diet.

I feel for you and other prostate cancer victims who are suffering the horrible side effects of a procedure that could have been avoided. I also feel for the millions of people who undergo open-heart surgery, suffer from the effects of type 2 diabetes or perish prematurely because no one ever told them that those diseases are easily reversible in 95% of the cases.

669Why don’t our nation’s doctors tell you these facts? Because they don’t know them. In med school, they learned to test, diagnose and then slash, burn and medicate. They’re just doing what they do—and will continue to do so until more of us take charge of our own health and just say “No Thank You” to the trillion dollar chronic disease testing, screening and treatment business in this country.

So, I have a challenge for you. Join our grassroots movement to get this life-saving message to the millions of future victims out there. Help them avoid the helplessness of unexpected side effects by showing them how to take charge of their own health. Start sending some of these blogposts to everyone you know.

There are some medical doctors out there who understand that our food choices are the foundation of health. They start there, get that right and then prescribe more invasive treatment only when absolutely necessary. You can learn about some of those doctors in the half dozen links below the article that you read. —My 669th consecutive daily blog—
