Want to keep reading one of my blogs everyday?

Even though the daily streak is ending—I’ll still be blogging frequently.

Plus, you can check out Categories. Those previous 730+ blogs will remain on the site indefinitely. In order to easily access whatever topic you might like to review, simply use the “Categrories” function. Near the top of the right column, look for this phrase: “Check out over 50 categories of daily posts.” Under “Select Category,” there is a drop-list in alphabetical order.

Each category is followed by a parenthesis showing the number of blogs I that have posted under that category. Some blogposts appear in two or more categories.

Take a look at the list below, you will notice that I have posted 75 blogs under the first category: “4Leaf for Life.” I even have a “Humor” category, where there are currently six blogposts.

For your convenience, I have pasted the entire list of “categories below”—and, as a tribute to the new Super Bowl Champs (the Ravens), I have added a hot link to the Athletics Performance Category.

  • 4Leaf for Life  (75) Academic Freedom  (7) Activism & Leadership  (162)
  • Alzheimer’s Disease  (6) Athletic performance  (11) Beverages (all)  (6)

When you click on one of the categories above or in the drop-down list, you will go to a page that has previews of the three most recent blogs on that topic. The arrow at the bottom of the page will take you to the three next three “older posts.” Notice that my most prolific topic is “Activism & Leadership” with a current total of 161 blogs. If you read one of them daily, it’ll take you almost six months to get through just that one category.

Me, an activist? Who knew? When I started this blog, I had never described myself as an activist, but I often do now. As and activist and the “big picture guy,” J. Morris Hicks needs to learn all about a plethora of inter-connected topics and then simplify everything—weaving them all together and boiling it all down to just two words: WHOLE PLANTS. That’s my kind of activism—and that’s not going to end.

I always liked this plant-based version of the Google logo.

Using Google. What would J. Morris Hicks have to say about almost any topic, person or phrase? Let’s say you’re thinking of a blog in which I mentioned David Letterman.

So just google “david letterman j morris hicks” and you will links to those blogs where Dave was mentioned. This is one reason I published our book under the J. Morris Hicks name instead of my typical James M. Hicks. It’s because I am the only J. Morris Hicks in the world—compared to about a million “Jim Hicks.”

Naturopathic Doctor added to my MD Help page

Please welcome Connie Sanchez, N.D., to hpjmh.com

Naturopathic logoI can tell you what caught my eye about Dr. Sanchez. It’s the fact that she has experience working with Dr. John McDougall and with all the wonderful people at the True North Health Center in Santa Rosa, CA. She now joins three MDs on our MD Help page—that was added to my blog in December of 2012—and has been very well received.

Many people have written to tell me that this page fills a real need in the world of medicine. That’s because many people who are striving to take charge of their health with a whole foods, plant-based diet will occasionally need the counsel of a medical doctor. They may need guidance when it comes to adjusting/eliminating their medications or they may need help with things like food allergies, digestive issues, cancer screening, autoimmune disorders and a host of other conditions.

Unfortunately, the medical doctors of today didn’t learn much, if anything, about nutrition in medical school and are not aware that up to 80% of our costs of health care are driven by our food choices. Since the majority of doctors still believe that you “need” to eat some animal protein to be healthy, they will not be able to properly counsel you as you make the shift to a whole foods, plant-based diet. But this highly experienced professional can.

Naturopathic Doctor — Connie Sanchez, N.D.

Dr. Connie Sanchez, N.D. is a 2001 graduate of the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Her expertise is in ‘teaching people how to create and maintain optimal health by living in harmony with the natural world.’  She states “I work with all types of people, from those who are already healthy and are seeking ways to optimize and maintain their health to those suffering from long-term illness, trying to work their way out of the chronic web of dis-ease.”

She has interned with Dr. John McDougall and with the doctors at True North Health Center in Santa Rosa. She is also a spokesperson for PCRM and a former cooking instructor for The Cancer Project. Dr. Sanchez has been a vegetarian/vegan for over 30 years and more recently a strict vegan. She teaches patients that a whole foods vegan diet is not only the best diet for human health but is also essential for the health of all species on this earth and for the planet. Dr. Sanchez devotes much of her spare time as an onshore volunteer for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and The Marine Mammal Center.

In her new book, Vegan Medicine: A Prescription for Health for You and the Planet, to be released July 2013, she addresses this topic.  In addition to specializing in vegan nutrition, lifestyle medicine, fitness, and fasting—she works with people with thyroid disorders, hormone imbalances, autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Day 2 of my “victory lap”—before my daily streak ends

Crush ItWhy do I say Victory Lap? Because this website has accomplished far more than I ever imagined at the beginning—February 10, 2011. My publisher at BenBella, Glenn Yeffeth, suggested in January of that year that I consider starting a blog to promote book sales. To help me get started, he recommended a book, Crush It, by Gary Vaynerchuk and the rest is history.

Not only has this blog promoted book sales, it has helped me develop my own “voice” in the world of what we humans should be eating and why. While developing that “big picture” voice, I have done far more writing in the past two years than I did while writing the book in 2010. Our book contains about 55,000 words, but this humble WordPress blog-site contains close to a million.

This blog has also enabled me to reach the requisite 10,000 hours of study—in order to become an authority in field of study. At least, that’s what Malcolm Gladwell postulated in his book, Outliers. And now that I have made that investment, I feel much more prepared to speak, consult and embrace activism as I do all that I can to execute the mission as stated in the book and on this site—promoting health, hope and harmony on planet Earth.

WordPress tells me every day how many visitors I had from all over the globe.

WordPress tells me every day how many visitors I had from all over the globe.

Making a difference. This is probably the single most important measure of success. And I can tell you that it really does feel good to know that you’re making a difference. With my blog now being seen regularly in over 100 countries, I frequently receive notes of gratitude from faraway places like Russia, Italy, Japan, New Zealand and Brazil.

Opening doors. In Vaynerchuk’s book that I mentioned earlier, I remember him writing about measuring the success of a blogging effort. He recommended not obsessing about site traffic in terms of visitors or followers. While you may only have fifty followers of your site, one of those followers might be the CEO of General Motors. You just never know who might be affected by the information you are sharing.

Example. Just last week, I was invited by the former head of one of the world’s largest publishing companies to join him as his partner in a new business venture. He verbalized that invitation during our first in-person meeting in New York last week. Our initial correspondence began with an email that he sent to me on 1-12-13.

Dear Jim, Your blogs are giving me an exceptional education. You grasp the “big picture” and convey all of its ramifications in such an eloquent way — for which I thank you! I believe that we share a common, noble cause — to change the world — as you so aptly put it: Promoting health, hope and harmony on planet Earth, and the long term sustainability of the human race — “Healthy Eating, Healthy World.”Although now in my eighties, I still have big dreams, audacious earth shattering goals and great expectations.”

My daily streak will end on February 11 with my 737th consecutive daily blog. But hpjmh.com will not be going dark. It will still be around for a very long time—hopefully long after I am gone. In the meantime, I will continue blogging, updating and adding pages—always focusing on my mission of promoting health, hope and harmony on planet Earth.

  • Health for the people
  • Hope for the future of our species, which is dependent on…
  • Harmony for all living things that share our HOME

As for the origin of my “health, hope and harmony” phrase, it came to me in the middle of the night during my first few weeks of blogging. I was thinking of the “faith, hope and charity” phrase when I thought of the HHH alliteration—and it just clicked. I now sign all of my books with my trademark H3 (H cubed).

See the first link below where I explained the meaning of the phrase for the first time. It was before I had concluded that it’s really not about saving the planet, it’s about preserving her ability to sustain the longterm sustainability of the human race.
