CANCER — “It’s the FOOD” says Dr. John McDougall.

Our genes load the gun, but lifestyle (mainly our food) pulls the trigger.

Since beginning my study of diet and health in 2002, I have been curious at how we name the many “cancers” based on where they occur in the body — as if each of them is a completely different disease. When, in fact, they’re really all the same disease — malfunctioning of cells—according to Raymond Francis (scientist).

In his book Never be Sick Again, he explained that there was essentially only ONE disease and only TWO causes. The one disease is malfunctioning cells (we have about 100 trillion of them):

  • First cause:  Our cells don’t get enough of what they need — nutrients.
  • Second cause:  Our cells get too much of what they don’t need — toxins.

In the case of cancer, we can’t control our genes; nor can we control some of the carcinogens that we might encounter; but we can control the food that we eat. By eating the right food, we can give our 100 trillion cells the nutrients that they need — while avoiding many of the toxins that they don’t need. It’s as simple as that; we can create just the right kind of chemical environment within our bodies that make it almost impossible for the genes & carcinogens to grow a family of cancers.

As for our food, we simply pattern our diet after those cultures where cancer is almost nonexistent. This fact is explained  by two experts (Greger and McDougall) in the recently updated blogpost below (containing two short videos):

Cancer Prevention — And Treatment, with Diet

One more thing; you might like to see what Raymond Francis had to say about our book:

“Poor nutrition is our leading cause of disease. Yet the biggest impediment to improving our health is that most people mistakenly believe they are eating a good diet. With the costs of disease out of control and threatening the economic health of our country, ‘Healthy Eating, Healthy World’ is a timely contribution, explaining in clear, easy-to-read language why our standard diet is making us sick, and how you can make simple choices that will improve your health, longevity and quality of life. This is a must-read book. Highly recommended!”

About J. Morris Hicks

A former strategic management consultant and senior corporate executive with Ralph Lauren in New York, J. Morris Hicks has always focused on the "big picture" when analyzing any issue. In 2002, after becoming curious about our "optimal diet," he began a study of what we eat from a global perspective ---- discovering many startling issues and opportunities along the way. In addition to an MBA and a BS in Industrial Engineering, he holds a certificate in plant-based nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, where he has also been a member of the board of directors since 2012. Having concluded that our food choices hold the key to the sustainability of our civilization, he has made this his #1 priority---exploring all avenues for influencing humans everywhere to move back to the natural plant-based diet for our species.

We need many more articles/videos like this to let everyone know that the food you eat will either lift you up or “lay you to rest”.
My mother in law just passed away on Monday and I loved her dearly and she was the very best baker/cook in Westerly. That being said the food she cooked i believe did not benefit her mental health or her physical health. It is so hard to prove to those who “EAT GREAT” but die early because there seems to be no concrete evidence that is universally known or distributed that proves eating western diet kills. Also love the great recipes coming from Lisa especially the ones that look great so i can start making them and getting my boys to eat them.

  2. Thank you for sharing this information! I too tell the same story… spread the word of truth and it will set people free!

Heard a good one today….when someone asked what should I eat…

If it is part of a plant eat it. If it is made in a plant don’t eat it.

Thank you. I ordered this book to see what it has to add to what I have already learned.

Yesterday PBS was running a film about Charles Darwin and all the flak he took when he introduced The Origin of Species. Religious people were extemely threatened. His wife wasn’t too happy to begin with either. It pretty much turned the world upside down in its understanding of how the Earth and its creatures were created. It was not as the Bible described it which was the accepted belief of most people. That was 1859. Here we are all of these years later and the evolution theory is accepted by most as the way the way nature works, and yet it is still being disputed by some religious people.

This reminded me a lot of trying to get out the message of plant-based diets for the sake of the health of people, animals and the Earth. It is something that turns the accepted ideas of human nutrition upside down, and people do not want to accept this as the truth because it is too foreign to their cultural traditions. Most feel threatened.
