Book Review by Erica Settino

Independent Book Review of Healthy Eating — Healthy World

Published by BenBella Books of Dallas Texas in October of 2011

What is the single most powerful decision humans can make for their health and for the planet? This is the question J. Morris Hicks poses to the readers of his well-researched, information packed and powerful book, “Healthy Eating, Healthy World.” And the answer, as many of us (although still not enough) have already come to know is of course, the decision of what to eat.

Although drawing from many revered works, those from the likes of T. Colin Campbell, Dean Ornish, Neal Barnard and Caldwell Esselstyn, Hicks has succeeded in finding his voice and unique approach in this comprehensive and easily accessible guide to unleashing the power of plant-based nutrition.

Though for some, the information may be repetitive if they have recently seen Forks Over Knives, or read “The China Study,” what Hicks has been able to offer in addition to a vast amount of ignorance slaying material, is a plan. As Hicks states in his introduction: “The primary objective of this book is to outline in simple, everyday terms the extent of the problems we face, how we got ourselves into trouble, and what each of us can do to make things better.”

In an effort to help those interested in changing their lives, the lives of innocent animals (which Hicks does a valiant job of discussing and describing in the chapter aptly entitled, “Hell on Earth”), and of course, the fate of our beloved Mother Earth, Hicks and his son have developed HealthyEatingHealthyWorld.com and 4LeafProgram.com.

So, not only does Hicks’s book and websites tell us what we need to know and do, they tell us how to do it. No more excuses. Our lives, and the lives of all beings depend upon it.
